General Auction Sales (Wednesday Evening)
Fur n Feather, Caged and Aviary Birds, Poultry, Waterfowl, Timber, Modern Furniture and General Auction.
A massive auction of native and ornamental poultry, waterfowl, ducks, game and caged birds takes place every Wednesday together with other fur and feathered creatures. The caged bird section is the largest in the North of England and the poultry sale is hugely popular. 50 - 100 stalls attend the general market from 2:00pm onwards and by 8:00pm over 2000 people will have visited the site each week - every week.
***All birds will be inspected upon arrival prior to them being placed in the cages***
The Prevention Zone in certain areas of Lancashire, Cumbria and Merseyside have now been lifted. Please note specific controls remain in place around a premises near Diss, South Norfolk, where there was a confirmed avian influenza H5N8 disease in a small flock of poultry on 3 June 2017.
We recommend that birds should be health-checked before travelling to the auction and that any birds travelling from the auction to any premises must be isolated from other birds at that premises and health-monitored for at least one week afterwards
